Thomas Parr, born around 1483, was said to have lived through the reigns of ten sovereigns and to have done penance for incontinence at the age of 105. According to legend he married his second wife at the age of 122. He died in 1635, an event that propelled him to national celebrity, and is buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey.
